What is a referral code? A simple UK guide

Referral codes explained in plain English — how they work, and how to find one that works.

A referral code gives a bonus for joining via a link; HonestCodes lists verified ones.

How referral codes work

When you sign up using a referral code or link, the service knows a friend (or a site) referred you, and rewards you both — often a cash bonus or free credit. They are free to use and do not raise your price.

Why referral codes often fail

Most codes fail for boring reasons — they are new-customers-only, a per-account limit is reached, the referrer's account lapsed, or the code was never checked. Most code sites just copy long lists between each other and never confirm them.

How to find a referral code that works

Use a source that verifies codes and shows a last-verified date, instead of a long unchecked list. HonestCodes lists one verified code per brand, checked by hand against the brand's terms and re-verified monthly. Browse the verified codes free.
