The answer

Microsoft announced two Nvidia RTX Spark computers for running large AI models locally, from $2,600.

Microsoft has announced two new computers designed to run large AI models on the machine itself, rather than on remote servers. They are the Surface Laptop Ultra and the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, and both use Nvidia's RTX Spark technology.

What happened

Microsoft announced both devices on 7 October 2026, according to Tech Startups.

Microsoft says the laptop supports up to 128GB of unified memory. That is a single pool of memory shared by the machine's processors. Microsoft also says the laptop can run models with more than 120 billion parameters locally. Parameters are the internal values a model learns during training, and a higher count generally means a larger model.

The prices are:

  • Surface Laptop Ultra: from $2,600
  • A stronger laptop configuration: from $3,700
  • Top laptop versions: up to $5,900
  • Surface RTX Spark Dev Box: from $6,000

Microsoft also said Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) is now generally available on Windows 11. MXC lets organisations run AI agents, which are programs that carry out tasks for you, in controlled environments. Microsoft said: "Those restrictions are enforced while an agent operates."

What it means for you

These are high-end machines. The cheapest costs $2,600, so they are aimed at people who want to run big models on their own hardware rather than at casual users.

If you work in an organisation that wants to use AI agents, MXC is available now on Windows 11 and is designed to keep those agents within set limits.

Microsoft also expects more Copilot features over the coming months that use local context and act on users' behalf. The notes do not say which features, or when they will arrive.

What happens next

Microsoft expects to add those Copilot features over the coming months. The notes give no release dates for the devices or details on how to order them, so check Microsoft's own listings for availability.
