Model launches
Musk says a powerful new Grok AI is ready — explained
What was actually announced, and why you can't try it yet.
Musk said xAI finished training a big new Grok model on 25 May 2026, but it isn't out.
You might have seen news that Elon Musk's AI company has a powerful new model ready. Here's what was actually said — and what it means in plain English.
What 'finished training' means
Building an AI model has two big phases: 'training' (teaching it, which takes huge computing power) and 'releasing' (making it available and safe to use). Musk said the new model, called V9-Medium, has finished the first part. It still has to be tested, fine-tuned and rolled out before anyone outside the company can try it.
Why take it with a pinch of salt
Two reasons. First, the claims (including that it's very large and performs well) haven't been independently checked — they're the company's own. Second, xAI has announced timelines before that slipped. So it's reasonable to be interested but wait and see, rather than assume it's arriving on a specific date.
