The answer

ChatGPT Health is now free to all US adults, on every ChatGPT plan.

OpenAI has widened access to ChatGPT Health, its tool for answering medical questions, so that every adult user in the US can use it, whatever plan they're on.

What happened

ChatGPT Health first launched in January as a separate hub inside ChatGPT, where you could connect apps like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal and Function, plus medical-record systems such as Epic and Oracle Health, to get answers tailored to your own data.

As of the week of 23 July 2026, that feature rolled out to all US users aged 18 and over on web and iOS, across every tier: Free, Go, Plus and Pro. Previously it was more limited. OpenAI has also changed how it works: your connected health data can now shape answers in any ChatGPT conversation, not just inside the dedicated Health hub. OpenAI said that in testing, 70% of health-related questions came up outside the hub, which is why it made the change.

The company said weekly health-related questions sent to ChatGPT have grown from 230 million in January to 300 million now. OpenAI also said its latest model, GPT-5.6 Luna, performs better than GPT-5.5 on HealthBench, a benchmark used to test how well AI models handle health questions, according to TechCrunch.

The wider rollout comes as OpenAI faces a lawsuit from a Florida pastor, who alleges ChatGPT gave him dangerous medical guidance.

What it means for you

If you're a US adult with a ChatGPT account, you can now connect your health apps and records and get answers that draw on your own data, even in ordinary chats that aren't inside the Health hub. That applies whether you pay for ChatGPT or use the free version.

OpenAI says it does not use your health data to train its underlying models, and that it works with physicians to check the safety of responses. But its own terms state the service is "not intended for use in the diagnosis or treatment of any health condition", so it is not a substitute for seeing a doctor.

How to try it

To use ChatGPT Health, go to the Health hub in ChatGPT on web or iOS and connect sources such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, or medical-record systems like Epic and Oracle Health. Once connected, that information can inform answers across any conversation in the app, not just within the hub itself.
