What Meta's Muse app means for you
Meta's AI agent shot to the top of the US App Store in ten days, and now works on Mac too
The answer
Meta's Muse agent became the top US iPhone app and expanded to Mac.
Meta has launched an AI agent called Muse that can act on your behalf — booking restaurants, buying tickets, sending emails and cancelling subscriptions you forgot about. Ten days after its US launch, it became the most downloaded free app on Apple's iPhone store, ahead of ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
What happened
Meta released Muse in the US on 8 September 2026. Unlike a chatbot that just answers questions, an "agent" like Muse is designed to actually carry out tasks for you: filling in online forms, booking trips, ordering tickets through Ticketmaster or OpenTable, and managing subscriptions. It's built on a Meta AI system called Muse Spark 1.3, and you can use it through a standalone Muse app, the website muse.ai, or inside WhatsApp.
According to Fox Business, tracking firm Sensor Tower found Muse hit No. 1 on the US App Store on 18 September, with more than 730,000 downloads in the US in its first ten days — an average of about 73,000 a day. That's slower than ChatGPT's 2023 debut, which averaged 87,000 daily downloads in its first eight days, but Muse still overtook ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Instagram in the charts, Yahoo Tech reported. It also launched in Canada on 18 September.
On 17 September, Mark Zuckerberg announced a Mac version, which arrived roughly a day later as a direct download. On a computer, Muse can organise your files, fill in forms and work with Apple's Messages, Calendar and Notes apps, picking up where you left off if you switch to WhatsApp.
What it means for you
Muse connects to services you already use, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, Ticketmaster, OpenTable, Spotify, Apple Health, Peloton, Plaid and Function Health. Any purchases it makes go through Link by Stripe rather than the agent handling your card details directly.
On security, Meta says each person's agent runs in its own separate cloud computer, and a system called Sentinel decides what the agent is allowed to access or do. Your actual passwords and card numbers are kept away from the AI model itself. Zuckerberg said: "You choose which apps and services Muse can access, and you can disconnect them anytime."
There's a free version of Muse, plus two paid tiers: Power at $20 a month and Max at $100 a month.
How to try it
You can download Muse now in the US and Canada, either as an iPhone app, on the muse.ai website, through WhatsApp, or as a direct download for Mac. Before connecting any accounts, you can choose which services to link and disconnect them whenever you want.
