How we chose

Our buying criteria

To make this list, a cordless vacuum had to come with a pet tool or a pet-specific brush and a brush-roll built to stop hair wrapping round it. Makers state suction in air watts (AW) or pascals (Pa), so compare like with like. Every pick is checked against the maker's UK spec sheet and live UK listings, with one honest catch each. Check these four things first:

Hair handling: look for an anti-tangle brush-roll, so pet hair doesn't wrap round the brush bar.
Pet tool: a motorised or FurFins tool reaches sofas, beds and stairs.
Run time and guarantee: compare the stated minutes and the years of cover.
Emptying and storage: pods or a wipe-clean bin keep you away from the dust, and some models fold to store without a wall mount.

How we choose every pick

Your questions, answered

Do I need an anti-tangle brush for pet hair?

Yes, if your pet sheds. The Shark Stratos's Anti Hair Wrap Plus removes hair from the brush-roll as you clean, and Hoover's Anti-Twist brushbar does the same job on the HF6 Pet. For very long hair, the Dyson V16 Piston Animal's two conical brush bars de-tangle hair up to 25 inches and remove it from the floor to the bin.

Does a cordless vacuum for pets come with a pet tool?

Yes, several do. The Shark Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus Pet Pro includes a Motorised Pet Tool for embedded hair on upholstery. The Hoover HF6 Pet comes with a motorised pet tool with LED lights, and the Henry Quick Pet includes an extra pet tool and a mini motorised tool.

How long does a cordless vacuum run on one charge?

Pick the Hoover HF6 Pet TurboSense for the longest stated run time: up to 100 minutes on one charge. Dyson's V16 Piston Animal states up to 70 minutes. Henry's Quick Pet lists 70 minutes on low, but only 16 minutes on high with the brush head off.

How long is the guarantee on a cordless vacuum for pets?

Get a 5-year guarantee with the Shark Stratos or the Shark PowerPro Pet. Hoover's HF6 Pet also gives you 5 years, if you register within 30 days of purchase. The Dreame R20 Pro lists 2 years.

Can I empty the bin without touching the dust?

Yes. The Henry Quick Pet uses one-click, dust-free emptying, and six pods are included. The Dyson V16 Piston Animal's compressing bin also empties with a hygienic, wipe-clean action.
